Since graduating in 1999, with a BA (hons) in Visual Communication, from the Edinburgh College of Art, I spent the earlier years of my freelance career working as a visual artist in the field of animation on short, hand drawn animations which have featured on Channel Four as well as touring various international film festivals. (see c.v for details) I continue to occasionally work on short films but currently my main emphasis is to develop my story ideas in illustration and exhibition format as well as contining to work at the Edinburgh College of Art as a tutor in the Animation Department. My work is often character based and influenced by emotion and in particular humour, and also my study of fine art, animation and printmaking. I love to create images that capture a moment in time, and like to think of my images almost as snapshots from surreal worlds, where sometimes even the imagined characters are aware of being viewed! I have a real like for contradiction and the unexpected in many different forms and hope my work conveys a certain sense of this in its style and content, and also, I hope my images evoke the onlookers own imagination to tell the story behind the picture - encouraging an interaction and integration between the viewer and image.
